Here’s the write up from our latest Tomb of Annihilation session, in which the characters set off for the forbidden city of Omu. I used material from Encounters in the Jungles of Chult in this session.
Begin here with Session 0 – Caves of the Cockatrice
11th Nightal, 1495 DR
The party have returned to Kir Sabal with the black orchid they found in Nangalore and are ready to set off for Omu. Teacher performs the Dance of the Seven Winds, surrendering her wings to give the characters the power of flight for the next three days and speed them on their way to Omu. Just before they leave, Princess Mwaxanaré reminds the party to look for the Skull Chalice of Ch’gakare in Omu and bring it to her.

The characters set off, flying southwest in a V formation. To the east, the jungle gives way to a blighted wasteland – something has poisoned or corrupted the foliage.
13th Nightal
The party land just outside the riverside village of Kouda in search of insect repellent. The villagers aren’t interested in gold coins but are happy to trade several jars for Nanna’s shovel and ball bearings and hand over a couple more when Eysleigh casts plant growth on their vegetable patch. The adventurers are warned that the jungle to the west of the River Olung is infested with undead, and learn of the Weeping Grove, a sacred willow whose branches can be used to make weapons that grow in power with the wielder. The grove is protected by tree spirits.

As the characters continue their flight, they are attacked by two emerald wyverns. Certes transforms into a giant (flying) ape with polymorph and Eysleigh summons an air elemental to take them on. Rhamash slays the first wyvern; the fully-grown Tyke kills the second, sending it plummeting into the jungle canopy.
14th Nightal
Back on foot after their powers of flight have worn off, the party trudges on towards Omu.
That night their camp is attacked by a pack of ghasts led by a gravecaller marked with the blue triangle symbol of Ras Nsi. Certes casts Evard’s black tentacles for the first time, but the effects aren’t as good as he’d hoped, and he is forced to resort to his trusty fireball. Once the ghasts have been killed, the group search the bodies, finding an orb of direction.

15th Nightal
Travelling along the edge of the jungle, the party arrive at a 1000-foot diameter clearing with a grand willow tree in the centre. Two giant lizards can be seen in its branches.
As the group enter the clearing and approach the tree, lightning bolts rain down from a storm cloud above, striking Eysleigh and the Green, and Certes (in giant ape form) and Vorn. Eysleigh dispels the call lightning spell, but the mysterious spellcaster rains an ice storm down on Tharhul and his menagerie, then re-casts call lightning.

Meanwhile, the fleet-footed Rhamash, has dashed across the open ground and is within 100 feet of the tree. The kobold spots several bark-skinned figures in the branches and calls out to them. One of the creatures responds, insisting the adventurers must “leave or die!”
Rhamash tells the willow folk that the characters mean them no harm. The party agree to deal with the Longtooth weretigers, followers of the evil god Malar, who are marauding through this part of the jungle, and leave the grove.
Tharhul searches for tracks and picks up the trail of the weretigers. The party travel southwest, reaching a bloodstained clearing, draped with strips of flayed human skin. Nanna and Rhamash sneak ahead, coming to a campsite where three flayed humanoid bodies are hanging from the trees. Two weretigers are sitting by the fire, bragging about the adventurers they’ve killed. An unconscious dwarf is tied to a tree.

The two characters sneak back to the others to report. Eysleigh casts pass without trace and the group approaches stealthily. Unfortunately, Vorn is too noisy and the weretigers are alerted. Certes casts slow on the lycanthropes, then Tharhul and Eysleigh cast spike growth. Pinned down and unable to act more than once each turn, the weretigers are almost helpless and soon dispatched. Tharhul severs the head of the last one standing with a critical from his longsword.
The rescued dwarf, Loro Pagg, asks if the party will take him back to Port Nyanzaru. He tells the characters that there are at least a dozen Longtooths out there; their leader is a fearsome brute called Kranga.
