Here’s the write up from our latest Tomb of Annihilation session, in which the characters at last reached the forbidden city of Omu. I used material from Encounters in the Jungles of Chult again this session.
Begin here with Session 0 – Caves of the Cockatrice
16th Nightal, 1495 DR
The party return to the Weeping Grove and present the severed heads of the two Longtooth weretigers to the wilden. Their leader Salixa gives the characters a tree spirit shortbow as a reward and warns them that the rest of the pride will almost certainly try and hunt them down.
The adventurers set off southwest towards Omu.

17th Nightal
Tharhul spots a man hiding behind a tree up ahead and calls to him. The nervous fellow introduces himself as Brogun and says he was part of an adventuring group who were searching for a shrine to Ubtao said to be full of treasure when they were attacked by weretigers and became separated. Tharhul thinks Brogun can be trusted, but the others are suspicious. Eysleigh presses a silver coin against his forehead to test for lycanthropy – nothing happens. The characters invite him to travel with them to Omu; Brogun agrees.
Later that day, Nanna spots movement in the trees, and is struck by an arrow. A short time afterwards, another archer shoots at Rhamash. The adventurers are being hunted!
That night, while Tharhul and Certes are on watch, two weretigers sneak into the party’s camp and attack the group. Meanwhile, the treacherous Brogun changes into a tiger-human hybrid and bites the sleeping Eysleigh. Certes polymorphs into a giant ape and attacks a weretiger as the other characters wake up and join the battle. Valdro kills Brogun with a critical hit, and Tharhul and Tyke take down the second weretiger. The last one is slain when Certes throws a tree at him!

18th Nightal
As the party carries on towards Omu, Nanna catches sight of another weretiger and shoots them with an arrow. When they run off, Tharhul casts beast sense to see through Buzzter’s eyes and sends the giant wasp after him. Unfortunately, Buzzter loses sight of his quarry.
That afternoon, the characters are ambushed by five Longtooth weretigers who have them surrounded. A hard-fought, lengthy battle ensues. Certes transforms into a giant ape again and Eysleigh summons an earth elemental. Tharhul needs to be healed several times by Eku, and Nanna is bitten and cursed with lycanthropy. Once the weretigers have all been dealt with, Eku casts greater restoration to lift the curse.

19th Nightal
The characters arrive in a jungle clearing to find Kranga, one-eyed leader of the Longtooths, and her son Jurvo waiting for them. Kranga challenges the party’s most formidable fighter to battle her in single combat. If their champion wins, the Longtooths will stop hunting the adventurers.
There’s some discussion amongst the party about who is their toughest fighter (Tharhul doesn’t think it’s him) and why they shouldn’t just attack Kranga and Jurvo en masse, but Certes steps in and accepts the challenge. Polymorphing into a giant ape, he proceeds to pound Kranga with his mighty fists. Meanwhile, Eysleigh summons an earth elemental close to Jurvo, causing the younger weretiger to move away and protest that the characters are cheating. But it’s too late – Certes delivers the killing blow to Kranga. Jurvo makes a run for it, escaping into the trees. The character recover Kranga’s cloak – a nature’s mantle.
22nd Nightal
Rhamash and Eku are on watch in the early hours of the morning when vines covered in red flowers start snaking into the party’s campsite towards the sleeping adventurers. The flowers appear to have angry, frowning faces!
The others wake up as the vines start to entangle them. Certes uses misty step to escape and Tharhul climbs a tree. Eysleigh casts speak with plants and is frustrated when the vines refuse to stop twisting around his arms and legs. He is on the verge of castingblight, but thinks better of it, pulls himself free, and talks to a tree instead. The tree tells him the adventurers have upset the chwingas with their destructive behaviour.

When dawn comes, Eysleigh starts casting an 8 hour plant growth spell to demonstrate how much the characters care about the jungle. A group of chwingas appear, led by one carrying a silver staff topped with a blue gemstone. The chwingas pull empty insect repellent jars and discarded bandages from the party’s healers kits from the bushes, and mime Certes’s fireball spells exploding as their leader wags his tiny fingers at the group. Eysleigh makes an impassioned apology and the chwingas seem placated. The leader gives him his staff – a wand of magic missiles.
28th Nightal
The adventurers arrive at Omu, looking down on the ruined city from the high cliffs where a waterfall pours into the basin below. As she looks down Nanna has a vision of Omu’s fall:
A city of magnificent, whitewashed buildings stretches out before you. Sunlight sparkles off of glass domes and windows, yet all is not well. Black smoke coils from fires across the city, corpses litter the streets, and wraiths circle the rooftops like vultures. A sphere of utter darkness grows out from the heart of the city, blotting out the light as it expands toward you. You turn away, and when you look back, the darkness is gone. The city is a half-flooded, overgrown ruin.
