Potbellied Kobold’s Guide to Villains & Lairs

I’m excited to share the news that I’m part of the Potbellied Kobold’s Guide to Villains & Lairs, the latest Kickstarter from Jeff Stevens Games. This is a super useful book for your D&D game, containing 30 villainous NPCs and 10 unique lairs to include in your next adventure. I had a lot of funContinue reading “Potbellied Kobold’s Guide to Villains & Lairs”

Scarlet Citadel Session 0 – The Road to Redtower

Last week, we kicked off my Scarlet Citadel campaign with Session 0. I’m going to do these write ups a bit differently to the ones I’ve been posting on here for Empire of the Ghouls, Tyranny of Dragons, and Wrath of the River King. Instead of writing up what happened in a “story hour” format,Continue reading “Scarlet Citadel Session 0 – The Road to Redtower”

Tyranny of Dragons Session 6 – Baldur’s Gate

Tyranny of Dragons was the first full D&D 5e campaign I ran, starting back in 2015. Here’s the write up from the sixth session. Murder in Baldur’s Gate, originally published for D&D Next, came in very handy for fleshing out the city as the characters had some downtime and pursued personal goals. Begin here with Session 1 –Continue reading “Tyranny of Dragons Session 6 – Baldur’s Gate”

Welcome to the Southlands!

Huzzah! I am incredibly excited that Southlands, the biggest freelance game design project I’ve worked on, is now available to buy in print & PDF from Kobold Press. I started working on the Southlands Worldbook in August 2019, beginning with the High Jungles, Kingdoms of Salt and Steel, and Corsair Coast chapters. My brief wasContinue reading “Welcome to the Southlands!”

A Guide to the Scarlet Citadel Map Overlays Part 2

One of the coolest things about Scarlet Citadel are the amazing dungeon maps by Jon Pintar, available on excellent quality laminated card in the Scarlet Citadel Map Folio.  This superb package also includes a set of overlays – smaller cards which are used to reflect changes to the dungeon during play, such as triggered traps and discovered secret areas.Continue reading “A Guide to the Scarlet Citadel Map Overlays Part 2”

Empire of the Ghouls Session 25 – The Grand Necropolis of Siwal

In our 25th session, we continued with Chapter 4: Catacombs of the Ghul King as the characters explored the Grand Necropolis of Siwal in the Southlands. Next session, the plan is to play in person again – fingers crossed! Here’s the write up which contains spoilers for the campaign.  Read past episodes 27th Snowfall, 92 FY It’s already getting hotContinue reading “Empire of the Ghouls Session 25 – The Grand Necropolis of Siwal”

A Guide to the Scarlet Citadel Map Overlays Part 1

One of the coolest things about Scarlet Citadel are the amazing dungeon maps by Jon Pintar. These are available on excellent quality laminated card (like the Pathfinder Flip Mats) in the Scarlet Citadel Map Folio. This superb package also includes a set of overlays – smaller cards which are used to reflect changes to theContinue reading “A Guide to the Scarlet Citadel Map Overlays Part 1”

Wrath of the River King Session 5 – The Birch Queen’s Fair

Wrath of the River King was the first 4th Edition Open Design project from Kobold Press and is set mostly in the Summer Lands, Midgard’s version of the Feywild. I ran this adventure in 2009, starting it in the Feyshore Forest near Parsantium.  Here’s the fifth write up, featuring a visit to the Birch Queen’s Fair.Continue reading “Wrath of the River King Session 5 – The Birch Queen’s Fair”

Where is Redtower?

The Scarlet Citadel is located not far from the small town of Redtower, which serves as a handy home base for the adventurers as they explore the deadly dungeon. But unlike the Scarlet Citadel itself, this settlement is not yet on the amazing online Midgard map. So where exactly is the village located? Redtower isContinue reading “Where is Redtower?”

Tyranny of Dragons Session 5 – Elturgard

Tyranny of Dragons was the first full D&D 5e campaign I ran, starting back in 2015. Here’s the write up from the fifth session. I always like to adapt published adventures to my group and to add in cool things I’ve found in other supplements. The harpy lair is from The Book of Lairs byContinue reading “Tyranny of Dragons Session 5 – Elturgard”
